A Closer Look: TuffTrak

Ground Protection Ireland is an Irish-owned and operated company specialising in temporary access solutions and surface covering systems.

We offer 24/7 delivery and installation of plastic and aluminium ground mats, roads and walkways, designed to protect and preserve even the most vulnerable indoor and outdoor surfaces. From marshlands to dense forests and bogs, our access and bridging systems allow people, heavy-duty vehicles, and machinery to safely navigate even the toughest terrains.

Every project is unique, which is why we offer four core products that are designed to meet a wide variety of needs:

In this series, we take a closer at each of them outlining the key features, benefits, common uses, and environmental aspects of each one, continuing in this article with our TuffTrak product.

TuffTrak – Heavy Duty Mats For Temporary Roadways

TuffTrak is a solid compression moulded mat, made from chemically inert and non-conductive HDPE plastic. Its one-piece solid construction and surface nub design provides an extremely strong support base with maximum grip, even over the trickiest terrains.

TuffTrak is stronger than the TerraTrak plus alternative, capable of sustaining weights of up to 150 tonnes, depending on the type of terrain.

Key features of TuffTrak

TuffTrak features a dual-grip design, which makes it an extremely reliable and versatile access solution. The low-profile, pedestrian-friendly underside reduces slips, trips and falls, making it an ideal solution for site walkways, depots and work areas.

TuffTrak is manufactured with the patented Chevron Traction, which provides excellent grip and stability. The mats have high-profile sides that facilitate mud dispersal and enhance forward momentum, even while being traversed by heavy vehicles and machinery.

In addition, the Chevron nub maximises grip while minimising slippage and sideways movement.

Where can it be used?

TuffTrak is suitable for a wide variety of ground conditions and projects. Because of its superior grip and stability, it works perfectly on the soft, wet and muddy ground. It is ideal for use as a temporary roadway or work mat that needs to support heavy plant machinery, vehicles, and people.

Some of TuffTrak’s most common uses include:

  • Renewable energy, including wind and solar farms
  • Construction sites
  • Industrial operations
  • Civil engineering
  • Transmission projects

How TuffTrak works

Like TerraTrak plus, TuffTrak can be installed quickly and easily, offering multiple connection options for different conditions and undertakings. The mats feature four connector points on each corner, meaning that fitting them together could not be easier.

Environmental aspects

TuffTrak is made from a chemically inert and non-conductive HDPE plastic, thus making it an ideal solution for transmission projects, eco-sensitive locations, or Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
