Ground Protection Requirements
Ground Protection Ireland received an urgent afternoon call from our long-time client ESB Networks, who needed to quickly remove and replace a damaged pylon tower in a remote area of Ardee, Co. Louth.
The following morning, our rapid-response crew was at the location and ready to install 200 Aluminium Trackway panels as a temporary access roadway and crane pad.
The Solution
The Aluminium Trackway panels were chosen because of the urgency of the situation and difficult on-site ground conditions. The panels allow the heaviest road-going vehicles to safely traverse particularly tough terrain and are the fastest deployed portable road available.
The dual-purpose trackway can be laid in multiple load-bearing configurations with its corrugated underside giving all-round traction to heavy plant machinery.
The Result
Using a hydraulic clamp system mounted on the specialised Ground Protection Ireland vehicle, our crew laid a safe and steady six-metre-wide roadway across the soft and muddy surface approaching the damaged pylon.
To fully accommodate the ESB vehicles, crane and team, they also installed an access area around the tower and a mechanical-grip work pad. Our build enabled them to then safely recover the existing tower and erect a new one.
